In the final image, when you show the mounted pieces I see a little gap, is this correct?
Yes, this gap has to be there for security reasons. This connection is a clamping. If it would be manufactured without this gap, it would be possible that the connection could become loose over time.
This sort of fixing is used on many parts of your motorcycle.
