BMW RnineT conversion by Hornig
2022-03-08 - unique old school look for the Heritage roadster What do you do if you find an old, slightly rusty, blue metal box with a worn checkerboard pattern decoration while decluttering? Exactly, you don't throw the antique thing straight into the garbage, but keep the piece and let it inspire you to do something bigger - and thus, the idea for the design of our new
BMW RnineT conversion with "gentleman old school look” was born.
For this we got a BMW RnineT and painted the tank and the front fender in three layers with different shades of blue. Then we carefully removed the top layers of varnish in places to reveal the underlying blue tones and create a slightly worn
retro design. An even
checkerboard pattern was then applied using an ingenious stencil by means of the airbrush method and finally
rust effects were created using a special metal powder technique. In addition to the tank and the front fender, we also added rusty highlights to the shock absorber and one valve cover to set even more retro accents.
We replaced the tank side covers in the knee area of the RnineT driver with specially made aluminum plates, which were slightly padded with foam and then provided with a
piping cover made of slightly faded blue leather and topstitching. To do justice to the "gentleman old school" look, we have attached an old
pocket watch on the right side, so that the driver can always read the time in proper style. The silver and black covered intake snorkel of the original
RnineT was a thorn in our side, which is why we covered it with vintage coffee bag fabric and thus created a "Café Racer" feeling. This fabric paneling is rounded off with two matching decorative buckles made of brown leather.
The
seats of our
BMW RnineT were upholstered and covered with light beige, used-look artificial leather. Our robust
ABS mudguard for the rear wheel offers optimum splash protection for the suspension, the exhaust system, the rear and the passenger. To make the fender color match the rest of our bike's design, we painted the fender bracket in a matching
gold tone, as well as the rider seat supports on both sides and the throttle body cover on the left. Moreover, we have wrapped the exhaust manifold of the RnineT with a gold-coloured
heat wrap tape. We created a cleaner design for the rear of our
RnineT by replacing the rear licence plate bracket by a
lateral licence plate bracket and by installing another
tail light. Our
side stand extension guarantees a safe stand on all terrains and our
fork crash protectors prevent the motorcycle fork from being damaged. Another highlight of our RnineT is the headlight insert
AC Schnitzer Light Bomb which we mounted into the original light housing. Moreover, we installed new
indicators on our
RnineT. Our
adjustable brake and clutch levers create a noticeable improvement of driving comfort. In addition, our
RnineT was equipped with a modern
speedometer, new
handlebars, fitting
rearview mirrors, a new
tank filler cap and a
footrest system. Our black
cooler protection grid protects the cooler of the motorcycle and constitutes another highlight of our RnineT. To close the open holes of the frame, we mounted some of our covers made of anodized aluminium, like for example our
swing arm pivot covers and various other
frame covers. Our
rear wheel centre cover with emblem, the
axle pivot cover, the
centre cap top yoke and our
oil filler plug with emblem are also made of anodized aluminium and complement the unique look of our
RnineT. Finally, our RnineT was equipped with new tires with a slight lug tread (Conti TKC70, front: 120/70 ZR17, rear: 180/55 ZR17) and a
Remus Hexacone exhaust in black.
