The brand new BMW M1000XR
2023-11-02 - Maximum performance for road and racetrack BMW Motorrad is expanding its M-model range with a new long-distance sports bike: the M1000 XR or shortly M XR. The motorcycle combines the performance of a superbike with the comfort and versatility of a crossover model.
The M1000XR is based on the S1000XR, but offers more power, less weight, and improved suspension technology and aerodynamics. With 201 hp, 223 kg, and winglets that provide more downforce, the M1000XR is designed to impress on both the road and the track.
The M1000XR's four-cylinder in-line engine is derived from the S1000RR and has been optimized for more torque and pulling power. The gear ratios have been chosen shorter to increase acceleration and pull-through. The M1000XR's suspension has also been revised and offers more adjustment options for the suspension and damping. The upside-down fork has closed-cartridge inserts for better tuning. The fork bridge, handlebar, and mirrors have been redesigned to improve handling. An adjustable steering damper provides more stability at high speeds.
The M XR is equipped with an innovative M brake system that is directly derived from motorsport. The braking system provides high braking power and optimal controllability. The motorcycle also features lightweight aluminium forged wheels or optionally exclusive M carbon wheels, which reduce weight and unsprung masses. A new function called Brake Slide Assist supports the rider in braking drifts in curves. The rear wheel is controlled to slide to reduce lean angle and increase cornering speed.
The M XR's instrument cluster features a 6.5-inch TFT display with a new representation of the red rev range. With an unlock code, the rider can access extensive data for the M GPS Laptrigger and the M GPS Datalogger to analyse lap times and performance data.
The M XR also impresses with its sporty design and dynamic styling. The proportions are ultra-compact and powerful, the surfaces are three-dimensional. The front section is equipped with new M winglets for improved downforce. The black colour scheme with the M colours light blue, dark blue, and red emphasizes the agility of the M XR.
For those who want to get even more out of their M XR, BMW Motorrad offers the M Competition Package. In addition to the M carbon wheels, the package also includes additional M carbon parts that reduce the weight by another 3 kg. The package also includes, among other things, an adjustable M rider footrest system, passenger footrests, and the MGPS Laptrigger (unlock code).
