Boxer with bite

2025-04-16 - The new BMW R1300R combines performance and comfort

With the R1300R, BMW Motorrad introduces a roadster model that elevates performance, technology, and design to a whole new level. The iconic boxer engine is even more dynamic in this generation - both in its appearance and handling - without compromising on the usual comfort and touring capability.

Consistently evolved
The heart of the new model is a completely revamped boxer engine with a capacity of 1,300 cubic centimetres. With an impressive output of 145 hp and a maximum torque of 149 Nm, it sets new benchmarks in its class. The increased power comes with improved smoothness and optimized efficiency. Three riding modes are standard, including the highly fuel-efficient "Eco" mode. For more performance-oriented riders, the optional "Dynamic" and "Dynamic Pro" modes are available, which can be customized to individual preferences.

Design with a sporty edge
The exterior design of the R1300R has become significantly more aggressive. With its sharp lines, bold proportions, and assertive design language, it emphasizes a strong sporty character. In addition to the standard version, three other model variants are offered - from the exclusive “Option 719 Kilauea” and the model variant “Exclusive” in Racing blue metallic to the race-inspired “Performance” version, featuring numerous technical upgrades such as a sport suspension, engine spoilers, sport seat and sport tyres.

Ergonomically designed
The riding position is noticeably more active. The footrests and handlebars have been repositioned to provide a more direct connection to the front end, without sacrificing long-distance comfort. Multiple seat options are available to accommodate riders of different sizes. Thanks to its low seat height, the bike remains easily accessible—even for beginners or shorter riders.

Cutting-edge suspension technology
The chassis of the R1300R has been completely redesigned. A steel sheet-metal main frame forms the core structure, supported by an aluminium rear frame. This new construction enhances rigidity and significantly improves handling, thanks to the centralization of mass. The front features a new upside-down telescopic fork, while the rear employs the newly developed EVO-paralever rear-wheel guidance. As an option, the Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) offers adaptive damping with automatic load compensation—a first for series production.

Safety and assistance systems
When it comes to safety, the R1300R is equipped with the latest technology. The standard Integral ABS Pro ensures stable braking, even when leaning into corners. A sport brake is available as an option. The bike also features a modern LED lighting system, including a dynamically shaped headlight. With the optional Headlight Pro, the adaptive cornering light provides particularly effective illumination of the road.
For long-distance riders, assistance systems such as the Riding Assistant are available as an optional extra. This includes adaptive cruise control and collision warning. The luggage system also sets new standards: the newly developed, electrified saddlebags can be unlocked centrally, feature interior lighting, and come with an integrated USB-C connection.

Comfort meets innovation
A standout feature is the debut of the automated shift assistant (ASA). This allows for clutch-free starts and gear changes, either manually or automatically—a comfort feature that particularly shines in city traffic and on long journeys.
